William Bancroft (1860-1932)

Born in Derby, England, he studied at the Royal Academy in London, the University of Manchester, and became skilled at trompe l'oeil still life painting.

He arrived in America in 1877 and traveled west, settling in Leadville, Colorado in 1878 and then in 1881 in Colorado Springs. He is known for his paintings of mining camps and mountain landscapes and for paintings of the Grand Canyon, which he did as commissioned work for the Santa Fe Railroad.
